Phil Smith Acura Is A Proud Sponsor Of Florida Atlantic University

Here at Phil Smith Acura, we uphold our legacy with pride and honor – a legacy that began for our Pompano Beach team in 2007 and one that we'll graciously carry on for many years to come. Our beloved founder, Phil Smith, may have passed nearly a decade ago, but his memory lives on in many ways. Today, our Acura dealership is thankful to announce that we're commemorating Mr. Smith once more by lending our support to Florida Atlantic University, where Phil himself was a student.

The Phil Smith Center for Free Enterprise

The Phil Smith Acura team is thrilled to partner with Florida Atlantic University, not only to help students further their education and career goals but also because FAU is home to the Phil Smith Center for Free Enterprise. Thanks to a $5 million gift to the university from Phil and Susan Smith, the Phil Smith Center for Free Enterprise was established to uphold the principles of integrity, respect, principled risk-taking, mutually beneficial exchange, and accountability, as well as to promote thought leadership in business.

Unveiled and dedicated on January 16, 2018, the Phil Smith Center for Free Enterprise was a triumphant celebration of Phil Smith's unwavering spirit. Sadly, Mr. Smith had already passed away after a long battle with ALS, but his friends, family, and colleagues gathered to honor his life and open a new addition to the FAU College of Business that would have made him incredibly proud. At the building's ceremony, faculty and staff spoke of their admiration for Phil and the lasting impact he made on their campus, while his wife Susan gave a moving dedication:

"Phil would be so proud to see this building named after him at the college that he chose to further his education …. He was an amazing person, and to have this building named after him is incredible."

The Phil Smith Center for Free Enterprise has also been designated an Oasis of Excellence by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that honors nationwide college and university programs for their commitment to art, science, American heritage, and diverse perspectives.

Honoring Phil Smith's Entrepreneurial Spirit

Without the guiding hand of our founder, Phil Smith Acura would not be the trustworthy automotive center it is today. We are eternally grateful to Phil Smith and the multiple ways in which he gave back to the citizens of Pompano Beach and Boca Raton. Mr. Smith believed wholeheartedly in free enterprise and wanted every person to have the opportunity to work hard and achieve their dreams.

In honor of Phil Smith's values and achievements, it only seems right that our dealership would partner with Phil's alma mater to help keep his legacy alive. For more than 30 years, Mr. Smith managed automotive centers like ours, relying on his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Florida Atlantic University and his devotion to equity and community service. Phil Smith Acura is grateful to uphold this beautiful heritage as we serve drivers from Pompano Beach to Boca Raton and beyond.
